Under the General Skilled Migration program, three major visa subclasses are available.

Skilled Independent -189

This permanent visa allows you to live and work anywhere in Australia. The visa class is subject to invitation rounds every three months.

Skilled Nominated – 190

SkillSelect Expression Of Interest (EOI) process

You can show your interest in SkillSelect by submitting an expression of interest.
A state or territory will decide whether or not to nominate you for a visa.
If you are appointed, the Department will ask you to apply for a visa within 60 calendar days. You cannot request a 60-day extension from the Department, and you must request that the state or territory reappoint you for the invitation.

You may be in or out of Australia when you submit a SkillSelect expression of interest. However, filing a SkillSelect declaration of interest does not constitute a visa request, and the Ministry will not grant you a bridging visa.

Suppose you have received an invitation to apply for a visa. At the same time, outside of Australia, the Department of Home Affairs will not award you a visa to go to Australia and apply for one. However, suppose you are in Australia when receiving an invitation and presenting your visa application. In that case, the Department may grant you a bridging visa to stay in the country until you have ultimately decided on your visa application.

EOIs in Skillselect

The EOI is maintained at SkillSelect and is valid for two years after you complete it. Incomplete EOIs are also kept for around two years but cannot be requested.

You may always examine your EOI and modify your information. If your circumstances change, you must access your EOI and update your information. If you receive a visa invitation, it will be too late to change your EOI. Under the following situations, you must update your statement of interest.

Results of new work experience.
Additional education, conferences, and seminars were attended.
Advancement of your English language skills.
The status of a family member has been updated or revised.

These changes can also affect your score and ranking. You should ensure that the information you provide in your EOI is correct and up to date. If your EOI application contains erroneous, false, or misleading information, it may be denied. The applicant’s expression of interest will be withdrawn from Skillselect:

If you get two invitations but do not respond with a visa application, or if you receive two invitations but do not respond with a visa application.
If you are invited to apply for a permanent or temporary visa and are later granted this visa,

If you must apply for a visa, SkillSelect will send you an invitation. You will be able to apply for a valid visa online within 60 days of the invitation date before the invitation expires. Applications sent outside of this time frame are not helpful, and you will have to wait for another invitation before you can apply. You do not need to re-enter the information you already provided throughout the online visa application process.

Steps for preparing expression of interest

Step 1: Create an EOI in SkillSelect

You have to list out the personal information necessary to create your SkillSelect account. You must provide the following information:

After confirming the details mentioned above, create an account with an email address and a password. SkillSelect will then assign a unique number to each expression of interest, and you must check in to keep this identifying number.

Step 2: Register

Log in using your SkillSelect expression of interest and password. Fill in the blanks with your information for each location. You may save your request and return it at any time.

Step 3: Select the visa kind.

Choose the visa that applies to you. It is possible to use more than one type of visa.

Step 4: English Test Proof

You will be required to produce documentation of your English language test if one is needed. Please complete the requested information, and this might include your exam date, test reference number, and test results.
